Beneath a Steel Sky – Now Free!

December 18th, 2008 by Joel Haddock

The fine people over at Good Old Games today released Beneath a Steel Sky, totally for free.  BaSS is an excellent point-and-click adventure game in the “classic” style, and if you enjoy being insulted by robots, you will certainly enjoy this.

I’d recommend giving it a try.

um, it’s been out for free for five years now :( You just had to run it on ScummVM.

Well, now you can play without ScummVM, so that’s a small step forward.

While we’re on the subject of point-and-click adventure gaming…

AGD just came out with a good (free) remake of Quest for Glory 2:

They recently did King’s Quest 1 and 2 which were pretty good. Though those downloads have disappeared from the site – forums say that they’re being updated. They’re probably having legal troubles with Vivendi again.

King’s Quest 9 is being made by another group:

Though after their own legal troubles it’s not officially called KQ9. I just started the demo. Pretty buggy so far but definitely in the spirit of the originals. Who knows when the full version will be released – been TBA for a while.

I hate Vivendi. Sierra (bought out by Vivendi) totally ruined the series with KQ8 (don’t get me started on that one). Vivendi has used KQ8′s poor sales to justify the death of any possible future titles. Luckily they’ve leased the license to these small groups – no doubt jumping on them if they show any success.

Sorry for hijacking your thread :)
